"They will know we are
Christians by our love...
by our love..."
Traditional American Hymn

Touching one another with God's love...

Ministries of mutual support and comfort are a vital part of any church and of course these ministries are an important part of our congregation. First Church has a large number of homebound members and friends. We try to stay in touch with these members through visitation from pastors and visitation staff, as well as through the sharing of altar flowers and communion served in the home on a regular basis. We also have many more specialized caring ministries.

Parish Nursing

First Church has a parish nurse on staff... Our parish nurse, Robin Spencer, is one of the primary caring ministers here at First Church. Robin can help church members and friends find community support groups and networks and is a  knowledgeable resource for members and friends in times of medical transition.

Communion Callers

Can't make it to church for the sacrament? Our team of trained communion callers  assist the pastors in bringing communion to you in your home.

Staying in the Pink

This is a group for women who have, or have had, cancer of any kind. They meet for brunch, information, and supportive fellowship in each other's homes four times a year. In addition, the group takes several field trips every year. Please call or email our parish nurse for more information.

Parish Visitors

A group of faithful volunteers contacts members and friends of the church who are homebound in order to extend the pastoral care ministries of the church.

Prayer Quilting

A faithful group of volunteers prepares prayer quilts for distribution to the homebound and persons with special prayer needs. The quilt knots are tied on Sunday mornings by church members who say a prayer as they tie the knots. We are part of an international and ecumenical group called Prayers and Squares and we are chapter 365.

Baby Prayer Shawls

First Church knitters gather monthly to create hand-made shawls for newborn babies within the congregation and beyond. Prayers are offered for the new children of God in our midst. Knitting is done at home, and the group gathers for final assembly and prayer.

Grief Support Groups

We regularly offer a small group grief support experience at church, usually coordinated by the parish nurse. Please contact the church office to learn of when the next group will be forming.
