Making Ministry Happen at First Church

First Church depends upon the faithful stewardship of its members to support the work of the church. Talent, time, treasure, and prayer are the gifts our church members and friends give that enable all of the ministries of the church. Every year, in October, we invite our church family to examine its stewardship responsibilities. One important part of that process is the making of a pledge of financial support. Once all of the pledges are returned to the church, our Finance Committee plans a balanced budget that addresses our ministry goals within the bounds of the promised levels of support. As a result, First Church has a record of being financially strong and fiscally responsible.

About Church Finances

Funding the work of First United Methodist Church is a responsibility and privilege of the congregation. Nearly 85% of our annual income comes from the regular giving of church members and friends to the general budget. Other sources of support include reimbursements from our capital fund and the Weekday School, grants from our Foundation, and donations for room use and weddings.

On the expense side, staff support is the single largest category. Our pastors, lay ministry directors, musicians, office assistants, and custodians all make possible the many ministries we share. Connectional ministries are gifts we provide to the denomination in order to insure ministry in places we cannot go ourselves. Campus expenses are the maintenance of costs related to our buildings. Office and program expenses provide newsletters, curriculum, bulletins, and supplies for all of our various ministries. Missions giving is above and beyond the general fund expenses.
